Covid-19 cases are on the rise in many parts of Bedfordshire, with some areas considered ‘blackspots’ as case rates exceed 800 per 100,000 people.
This comes as the Omicron variant was discovered in Bedfordshire as it sweeps its way across the country.
Bedford Borough Council has also said the number of Delta coronavirus infections are also on the rise across the area.

There are now seven areas that have been highlighted as Covid ‘blackspots’, according to the latest weekly statistics.
On the government’s interactive coronavirus map, areas are given a colour relating to their level of infection.

The highest category is for areas with rates of 800 and above, which are marked in black, meaning they are then labelled ‘blackspots’ in each county.
Cases are on the rise in Luton with a rate of 484.7 per 100,000 people and 1,035 total cases from the days to December 3.
This is up 9.9 per cent from the previous week.
Central Bedfordshire has a much higher rate of 726.6, up 29.9 per cent from the week before and Bedford has a rate of 535.2 up 18.7 per cent.
