Beds Fire has confirmed firefighters managed to tackle the blaze and that they are now investigating the cause of the fire.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: “At 6.10 this morning crews from Kempston, Bedford, Ampthill, Harrold and Potton attended a roof fire in Duncombe Street, Kempston.
“Firefighters used the ariel platform to remove roof tiles and tackle the fire externally. A total of 7 Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels, one safety jet and a covering jet to extinguish the fire. A triple extension ladder was also in use.
“People were evacuated from the property and neighbouring properties. Scene safety was implemented at the scene and Ambulance and Police were also in attendance.
“Once the fire was out, crews dampened down the area and used thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots. The scene has since been reinspected and we are awaiting the outcome of a fire investigation to establish the cause of the fire.”
