A traffic stop in Luton in the early hours of yesterday morning led Bedfordshire Police to find drugs, cash and a suspected gun.

The car initially failed to stop for officers but the vehicle eventually came to a stop in Chapel Street where they made the find (Friday, December 17).

Part of the street was reportedly cordoned off while a search of the area was conducted.

Two men in their 20s were arrested at the scene and remain in custody.

In a statement, a Bedfordshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit stopped a car in Chapel Street, Luton, at around 3.30am this morning (Friday).

“After initially failing to stop when requested, the vehicle was brought to a halt and a subsequent search of the car and surrounding area found a suspected firearm, drugs and cash.

“Two men in their 20s were apprehended and arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and were taken into custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
