Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge take advantage of this and take time away from the royals to see in the New Year.

What do William and Kate do for New Year’s?

After spending most of their time with William’s side of the family, the Duke, the Duchess and the children, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, 19 months old, head to Kate’s parents.

The Middletons live in Berkshire and are known for their New Year’s parties.

They usually host more than 100 guests, which include Kate’s sister Pippa.

Kate’s side of the family reportedly goes all out for their New Year’s Eve celebration.

On one occasion, Pippa Middleton rented a 100-person capacity teepee similar to those used by reindeer hunters.

The celebration’s theme that year was the ultimate winter wonderland party, and of course, the house is complete with a dance floor.

That year was the first time Kate and William celebrated New Year’s Eve together.

How does the Royal Family celebrate New Year’s?

The Queen and Prince Philip in the past hosted family and friends at Sandringham House for New Year’s.

There was an open invitation to all members of the Queen’s family.

Reports suggest when the Queen is hosting family members, no one is allowed to go to bed before her.

On New Year’s Day, the monarch and her guests attend a New Year’s Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church then go horse riding and pheasant hunting.

The Queen usually stays at Sandringham until February 6, which is the anniversary of the death of her father King George VI.

This year, however the Queen stayed in Windsor for Christmas due to rising Covid cases.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle like to travel at this time of year.

Last year they jetted off to Monaco for New Year’s and this year will be in Canada celebrated in private with their seven-month-old son Archie Harrison.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess Camilla head to the Scottish Highlands at the end of December.

Prince Charles owns Birkhall on the Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire and it’s the couple’s favourite spot for relaxation.

The estate is where the heir to the British throne and Camilla spent their honeymoon.

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, meanwhile, both like to travel at this time of year.

In fact, the pair first met at a New Year’s trip to Verbier in Switzerland in 2010.
