The DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) has released the list of payment days for universal credit and when they’ll be coming in for the beginning of 2022.

Millions rely on these payments and coming of the back of Christmas and into more cold months they are more crucial than ever.

This year there will be an interruption to normal pay dates because of the way bank holidays fall this year.

Christmas Day (December 25) and Boxing Day (December 26) fell on a Saturday and Sunday, meaning the bank holidays were moved to Monday, December 27, and Tuesday, December 28.

Similarly, New Year’s Day (January 1) falls on a Saturday so the bank holiday has been moved to Monday, January 3.

The DWP said: “Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you’ll usually be paid on the working day before. This may be different for tax credits and Child Benefit.

“Some payments will be made earlier if they’re due between 27 December 2021 and 4 January 2022. Tell the office that pays your benefit if you do not get your payment on the day it’s scheduled.”

New Year Payment Dates for 2021/2022

Payment due: Friday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve)

When Universal Credit will be paid: Friday, December 31
