A lot of crime was committed in Bedfordshire in 2021 and we have run the numbers to find out what the most dangerous streets were last year.

Analysis of police statistics from police.uk shows that the most dangerous street in the county was in Bedford and the second most dangerous was in Luton.

The analysis was calculated using crime report data from January to November (the latest available) this year and adding up the number of violent or sexual crimes reported to Bedfordshire Police on specific roads.

Records with generic road names such as “High Street” or “Church Street” have been excluded from the calculation or any entries which are specifically recorded at buildings.

The analysis shows that Adelaide Square in Bedford had the highest number of violent or sexual crimes.

There were 163 instances of this type of crime reported between January and November on or near Adelaide Square.

Adelaide Square is near both HMP Bedford Prison and the Bedford Sixth Form.

Dunstable Road in Luton recorded the second highest amount of violent or sexual crime on or near it in 2021 – with 128 instances.

The large road stretches from the centre of Luton to Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

The third highest level of crime was recorded on or near Lewsey Road in Luton – with 96 sexual or violent crimes recorded by Bedfordshire Police.

This is one of the roads outside Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

The fourth highest level of violent crime in Bedfordshire was on or near The Avenue in Sandy – with 90 separate incidents recorded from January to November 2021.

This is a residential road near Sandy Park.

New Bedford Road in Luton recorded the fifth highest level of violent or sexual crime in Bedfordshire, with 88 separate incidents recorded in 2021.

This road stretches from the centre of Luton all the way to Barnfield.

A total of 86 violent crimes were recorded on or near Chapel Street in Luton in 2021 – the sixth highest in Bedfordshire.

There were a total of 85 violent or sexual crimes reported on or near The Lane in Wyboston last year. This road is a long country lane.

There were 65 violent or sexual crimes reported on or Guildford Street in Luton last year and 62 were reported on Adelaide Street in Luton.

Easingwold Gardens in Luton had 59 violent or sexual crimes reported on it in 2021. This is a small residential road.

Biscot Road, also in Luton had 55 violent crimes recorded and Milliners Way in Luton had 54.

Kingsland Road in Luton had 52 violent crimes recorded.
