Three New Zealand photographers have been lauded for their pictures of the Milky Way.
The yearly level of competition from vacation pictures site Seize The Atlas showcases illustrations or photos of the galaxy taken from all over the planet.
Of the 25 highlighted this 12 months out of hundreds of entries, a few occur from New Zealand photographers, the most from any one particular region: Nick Faulkner, Rachel Roberts, and Evan Mckay.
Christchurch-based Faulkner runs Hueman Images, which specialises in landscapes and astrophotography.

His image, Solitude, is of Castle Hill in Selwyn.
In his summary he explained the region as remote but gorgeous: “This Alpine region is 1 of my favourite destinations to photograph the stars, as it is to so lots of other passionate darkish sky fans.
“The formations of hundreds of big weathered limestone tors that erupt from mom earth, make for amazing topics to seize. Add a late winter snowfall to that and it doesn’t get much better.”
For Roberts, her impression of Motukiekie on the West Coastline showcases the region’s “darkest and most underrated skies” in New Zealand.
She was incredibly happy with her graphic, The Rocks, as she had a newborn six weeks just before the shoot and “the slumber deprivation I was experience was future stage!”
It was 2nd time lucky for Palmerston North’s Mckay and his graphic of Taranaki Maunga.
Soon after a considerably less-than-extraordinary prior endeavor, he was “pleasantly stunned to discover the skies had cleared up by the early morning and proceeded to hike up and shoot from this location on The Puffer”.
“It was continue to my to start with location arch of the calendar year. There ended up even a couple meteors flying all over and I caught some of them on my frames. I arrived a little bit late, so the foreground pictures ended up getting taken through twilight, which demanded loads of colour, temperature, and publicity adjustments to merge them into a panorama.”
This year’s levels of competition attracted entries from all around the planet which includes the US, Australia, Egypt, Chile, and Argentina. Very last 12 months, New Zealand photographer Larryn Rae of Shadow & Shade was named amongst the finest for his image of Taranaki Maunga.
