A Cambridge restaurant has been named among the top 100 restaurants in the UK. Midsummer House was included as part of Estrella Damm’s National Restaurant Awards for 2022.

Labelled as ‘The best fine dining restaurant in Cambridge’, the eatery opened in 1998 to rave reviews from critics and customers alike. It is the only restaurant in Cambridgeshire to have won Michelin Stars and chef Daniel Clifford is a previous winner of BBC Great British Menu.

The awards are judged by an elite panel of chefs, restauranteurs and food writers throughout the UK. They launched in 2007 and celebrate the brilliance, vibrancy, and the best of the UK dining scene.

An entry on the awards’ website said: “Daniel Clifford’s smart restaurant located in a Victorian villa on Midsummer Common on the banks of the River Cam is unlike any other in the country. For a start, if you choose to stroll there across the common you’ll likely have to contend with the free-roaming cattle which, if they aren’t sitting around in the sunshine, are helping themselves to the flowers of Midsummer House’s front garden.

“But that’s just the start. The two Michelin-starred restaurant, which in 2018 celebrated its 20th birthday, has long been considered one of the best in the country thanks to Clifford’s unflinching dedication and ambition to create a dining room that can hold its own on the global stage.

“The biggest changes have been on the plate, with Midsummer House’s menu more ambitious than ever before with Clifford becoming increasingly inventive with flavour combinations. The tasting menu at dinner costs £230 a person but for that you get a meal made with top ingredients that change with the seasons.”

The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Award winners will be crowned at an exclusive event in London on Monday, June 13. To find out more about the awards, you can visit their website here.
